The 2025 edition of the awareness campaign for caregivers in mental health under the theme Invisible role, a lasting impact!
In Quebec, individuals who support a loved one living with a mental health disorder often face stigma and experience challenges that impact their professional lives. These workers, who must perform at work while also acting as caregivers at home, are sometimes left to manage on their own—ultimately affecting workplace productivity. As part of the 2025 awareness campaign for caregivers in mental health, we aim to shed light on the reality of caregivers in the workplace, support employees, and equip employers with the tools they need!

Let’s open the discussion!
According to a recent survey by CAP Santé Mentale, 82% of caregivers in the workplace find it difficult to balance their professional responsibilities with their caregiving role. In fact, 54% of respondents reported that their caregiving duties have had an impact on their career path. Among the reported impacts:
- 91% cited mental or emotional overload
- 72% reported presenteeism
- 71% experienced feelings of guilt
- 67% noted a decline in performance or productivity
- 58% reported burnout
Despite all these avoidable impacts, 86% of respondents believe that Quebec workplaces are not—or are only slightly—equipped to support caregivers in mental health. In fact, many common barriers still hinder the balance between work and caregiving in mental health contexts, including:
- Lack of workplace flexibility in responding to unpredictable crises
- Limited access to mental health professionals outside of working hours
- Persistent stigma in professional environments, leading to isolation and self-censorship
- Lack of organizational support and recognition of the realities faced by caregivers in mental health
In response to these findings, the 2025 awareness campaign for caregivers in mental health aims to:
- Break taboos and stereotypes surrounding mental health
- Raise awareness about the reality of caregivers in the workplace
- Promote the importance of caregivers’ own mental health
- Encourage help-seeking and use of available resources
Join us in opening the dialogue around this invisible role with real impact!
